The Calgary Independent Business Cooperative (C.I.B.C.) was established to serve as a resource for Calgarians who are willing and able to support more local independent businesses.
The CIBC defines a local business as one that is owned in majority by Calgary area resident(s), and is responsible for its own decision making regarding marketing, operations, and legal proceedings.
The wide array of local shops around our city provide nearly every imaginable products from the basic to the eclectic; conceivably a Calgary could meet all their needs and wants by shopping at locally owned and operated businesses.
The CIBC was established because it was observed that many people will support one aspect of the local economy, but ignore others, sometimes simple because they don’t know they exists.
We decided it would be a benefit to both citizens and business owners of Calgary if a comprehensive and simple directory could be built. One that is supported by local businesses, and not by unrelated 3rd party ads.
Utilizing a clean, easy to navigate design, we’ve provided one of the only truly usable online business directories out there. Two major graphical elements are provided by locals as well, the background and masthead photos of Calgary and it’s landmarks are provided by local photographers. (Click here to submit your own!)
We encourage interaction as well; if you have a suggestion or dispute information from our site, email us and we will respond to it.
We thank you for your interest in our site, and your support of local business, we are looking forward to building our directory and helping our local Calgary economy!
